Vtg Oaxaca Mexico Engraved Bowie Knife Bird Head Horn Handle & Sheath ~11.75\" For Sale

Vintage hand-crafted Mexican Bowie/hunting knife from Oaxaca, Mexico, measuring approximately 11-3/4\" overall with a 7-3/8\" blade.

Features a deeply engraved blade with an elaborate hunting scene depicting deer and a dog in the field, decorative scrollwork, and a long traditional Spanish saying. The blade also incorporates a small bottle/can opener near the ricasso.

The engraved inscription reads:

“Soy como la carne flaca, en cualquier gancho me atoro.”

A loose English translation is “I’m like lean meat — I’ll get caught on any hook,” a traditional humorous Mexican saying expressing that someone is willing or ready for almost anything.

The knife has a distinctive sculpted bird/eagle-head pommel, brown horn or bone-type handle scales with metal fittings, and its vintage handmade leather sheath with leather tie.

The overall construction and engraved decoration are consistent with vintage artisan knives produced in Oaxaca, Mexico. Similar examples are sometimes associated with Cervantes of Oaxaca, although this knife is being sold based only on the markings and features visible in the photos and is not attributed to a specific maker unless otherwise marked.
