Vintage Kaoru Kawano Woodblock Print \"Dream\" Girl in Red Hood Framed MCM For Sale

Striking vintage Japanese woodblock print associated with noted Sōsaku-hanga artist Kaoru Kawano (1916–1965).

The composition depicts a stylized young girl surrounded by a dramatic field of red and black woodgrain with small white birds at her side. The strong use of natural wood texture, simplified figure and bold color are characteristic of Kawano’s distinctive mid-century Japanese modernist aesthetic.

The print bears a red artist seal in the upper right corner. No visible pencil signature has been found. Please review the detailed photograph of the seal.

The artwork remains in its older black frame under glass with a wide cream mat.

CONDITION

The print itself appears to be in excellent vintage condition as viewed beneath the glass, with strong, vibrant red, black, cream and white coloration.

The vintage black frame shows minor scratches and general surface wear consistent with age. There is some visible fogging/hazing to the glass. The backing also shows age and wear.

The artwork has not been removed from the frame for inspection, so the reverse of the print and any portions concealed beneath the mat have not been examined. No pencil signature is visible within the exposed image.
