According to my mother, her great-grandmother told her that the wood used for the miniature carving was believed to be a relic of the True Cross of Christ. There is no surviving documentation authenticating this attribution, so this is shared strictly as family tradition and not as a verified claim.
Unusual antique Czech/Bohemian garnet reliquary necklace, believed to date to the Victorian/late-19th-century period.
The necklace features a large oval, floral-style garnet medallion measuring approximately 1.25\" wide x 1.5\" high, densely set with faceted deep-red garnets in a dimensional cluster design. A smaller decorative garnet-set connector sits immediately above the main pendant.
The pendant is suspended from an approximately 18.5\" strand of individually faceted dark-red garnet beads, finished with a spring-ring clasp.
What makes this piece especially unusual is the reverse: beneath glass is a devotional/reliquary compartment containing a miniature hand-carved wooden Crucifixion of Jesus, mounted against red textile.
The necklace is in antique condition with age-related patina and wear consistent with its age. It has not been professionally authenticated or restored. Please review all photographs carefully, as they are an important part of the description and show the condition and details of the piece.
