Published by Damiani in 2015, this acclaimed monograph brings together more than 200 photographs from Sugimoto’s celebrated Seascapes series, created over several decades around the world.
Using a remarkably consistent composition — sea and sky divided by the horizon — Sugimoto transforms changing oceans, light, atmosphere, and geography into minimalist meditations on time, nature, perception, and the origins of the world. The subtle tonal variations and large-format black-and-white reproductions make the book particularly striking as a photographic object.
This is the 2015 Damiani edition, now out of print, and should not be confused with the later expanded edition published in 2019.
