This Marantz 2215B came to me as a long-storage “barn find.” The previous owner reported that it had been sitting for decades and had intentionally not been powered on.
The receiver was first powered carefully through a dim-bulb tester. It passed, and one of the first pleasant surprises was how well the AM/FM tuner performed. The tuner remains one of the strongest-performing 2215B tuner sections I have encountered.
The receiver was then carefully restored with the goal of improving long-term reliability while preserving as much of its original character as practical.
RESTORATION / SERVICE PERFORMED
• P800 power-supply board recapped
• Main filter capacitor upgraded to 4700 µF / 63 V
• Power-supply rectifier diodes renewed
• P700 power-amplifier board recapped
• Output transistors replaced with modern complementary devices
• Fresh thermal compound applied to mica transistor insulators
• Right-channel amplifier fault traced and corrected at the C706 circuit position
• H702/H704 amplifier-stage transistors serviced/replaced during troubleshooting
• P400 phono/equalizer board recapped
• PE01 tone-amplifier board serviced
• Original CE15/CE16 bipolar capacitors retained because proper bipolar replacements were not required for operation
• Controls and switches cleaned and treated
• New dial vellum installed
• Main dial illumination converted to LEDs
• Original dial-pointer lamp retained and working
• Original red stereo-indicator lamp retained and working
• Interior, faceplate, knobs, controls and cabinet thoroughly cleaned
• Receiver completed an overnight powered heat-soak after restoration
The alignment-sensitive tuner/RF circuitry was not unnecessarily disturbed because tuner performance was already exceptionally good.
FINAL ELECTRICAL CHECKS
After an overnight heat soak:
Left-channel bias: 11.1 mV DC
Right-channel bias: 11.2 mV DC
Warm power-supply measurements:
J811: 33.1 V DC
J813: 14.4 V DC
Both channels remained stable and closely matched.
FINAL BENCH TEST
Both channels were driven simultaneously into 8-ohm dummy loads at approximately 989 Hz.
Left channel: 30.7 Vpp — approximately 14.7 watts clean into 8 ohms
Right channel: 30.3 Vpp — approximately 14.3 watts clean into 8 ohms
These are minimum confirmed clean-output figures, not clipping-limited maximum power. Both the receiver volume control and the available signal-generator output were at maximum, yet neither channel showed visible clipping.
The Marantz 2215B is factory rated at 15 watts per channel into 8 ohms, so this receiver is producing essentially rated clean power from both channels.
COSMETIC CONDITION
This is an exceptionally clean example for its age. The brushed-aluminum faceplate, dial glass, controls and knobs present beautifully. The new vellum and LED illumination give the classic Marantz blue dial a bright, even appearance, while the original orange dial pointer and red stereo lamp preserve the original look.
The wood cabinet presents very nicely but does have normal age-related marks and imperfections. The bottom panel also shows normal cosmetic wear. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they are considered part of the description.
DOCUMENTATION
The receiver comes with the restoration documentation and Marantz 2215B owner\'s-manual material shown in the photographs.
This is a restored vintage electronic component, not a new receiver. It will be carefully packed for shipment.
A beautiful example of the classic Marantz 22-series design, fully operational, documented, load tested, heat-soaked and ready to enjoy.
