Later, he had the opportunity to study Buddhist scriptures in Lampang Province and was ordained as a full monk there. He resided and studied meditation at that temple for a considerable time before offerding farewell to his preceptor to embark on a solitary forest retreat to practice meditation, eventually returning to Luang Prabang.During his lifetime, Sadhu Yai Chanpheng Chanthasaro assisted in overseeing the restoration of the Phra That Mak Mo stupa at Wat Visounnarat, Luang Prabang; the restoration of the Phra Chao Saen Suk stupa at Wat Saen Sukharam, Luang Prabang; the construction of the Phra Chao Ong Luang stupa at Wat That Luang; and countless other works.He passed away at Wat Phanom, Luang Prabang, Laos in 1978, on a Friday in the eighth lunar month, corresponding to Friday, July 21, 1978, at the age of 77 years, 7 months, and 17 days.Venerable Chanpheng created many sacred objects for his close disciples, villagers, and government officials, including military and police officers of that time, as a source of spiritual support. For example, he used powdered materials from writing and erasing on a blackboard as a main ingredient, a type of sacred powder also known as magical powder. In addition, he mixed in various medicinal herbs according to his formula, as well as auspicious woods. At that time, the area was a dense forest infested with elephants and tigers. The various materials are therefore readily available, including agarwood, black ebony, candlelight herbs, and others, according to the formula and method of the master.
