~ Offers Encouraged ~I acquired this watercolor (along with several others) directly from the Bradshaw family in 2002 at the artist’s beloved summer home in Three Arch Bay, California. The paintings were part of the family’s personal collection and have been lovingly preserved in my private collection ever since.

This striking 1930s watercolor byAlexandra Bradshaw(1888–1981) captures one of the most iconic views along the Southern California coast: the dramatic ocean vista framed by the famous three arches at Three Arch Bay in South Laguna Beach.Painted from Bradshaw’s own home at Three Arch Bay, the composition features a large seashell dramatically placed on the windowsill, with the deep blue Pacific Ocean and white-capped waves visible through the multi-paned window. Below, the red-tiled roofs of the coastal homes add a charming, almost Cubist touch typical of Bradshaw’s modernist-influenced style. Alexandra Bradshaw studied art with Hans Hofmann, Rex Slinkard in Los Angeles and with Andre L\'Hote in Paris, UCLA, Columbia and Stanford. Bradshaw was head of the art department at Fresno State College from 1922-1948 (students heavily influenced by her style include Hubert Buel and Don David). By 1954 Alexandra had married Clarence Hoag and moved to a large estate just outside of Boston, MA (she continued to maintain her second residence in Three Arch Bay, South Laguna). Alexander Bradshaw died in Whittier, CA on Sept 24, 1981.Biography courtesy CalART.com
