Exceptional collection of 45 vintage mounted sedge specimens dating from 1935–1939, preserved together in their original cardboard storage box. The collection was deaccessioned from the Herbarium of the Connecticut Agricultural College, Local Flora, with an original institutional herbarium card included.
The specimens are individually mounted on large cardstock sheets and identified in period handwriting with botanical names and, in many cases, collection locations and dates. Also included is an original card for F. H. Paine of Abington, Connecticut, with “Sedges” handwritten on the reverse.
Each full-size specimen sheet measures approximately 16 by 11 inches.
The mounted botanical specimens themselves are in excellent condition for their approximately 90-year age, retaining remarkable detail and visual presence. The cardstock shows scattered age-related toning, foxing, discoloration and other expected signs of age. Please examine photographs for individual condition and details.
The original cardboard storage box is in heavily worn condition, with tears, losses, creasing and general deterioration from age and storage. It is included as an important part of the collection’s history and provenance.
