👨🎨C.1840 WATERCOLOUR PORTRAIT MINIATURE – BIRD’S-EYE MAPLE FRAME
Beautiful antique watercolour portrait miniature dating to around the 1830s–1840s, depicting a young gentleman with dark curled hair, formal black coat and high-collared waistcoat.
The portrait is hand-painted in watercolour, with wonderful period character and delicate facial detail. It is displayed behind glass in a fantastic antique frame.
🖼️ The bird’s-eye maple frame is especially attractive, with rich honey-brown colouring, highly figured grain and a gilt inner liner. The combination of the miniature watercolour and early frame makes this a particularly charming 19th-century piece.
✍️ The original backing has old handwritten information that appears to include a name and additional identifying details. Everything has been left as found.
A wonderful approximately 180-year-old portrait, perfect for collectors of Georgian and early Victorian art, portrait miniatures, antique watercolours and early 19th-century furnishings.
