Antique French Marchand Paris opera glasses dating to approximately the turn of the 20th century. Beautiful brass construction with genuine iridescent mother-of-pearl panels covering both barrels and MARCHAND PARIS marked mother-of-pearl eyepiece surrounds.
The center focusing mechanism operates smoothly and the optics are functional, providing the low-power magnification typical of period theater/opera glasses.
Includes the original fitted leather-covered hard case with blue fabric lining and ornate brass clasp. The clasp remains functional. Case shows substantial age-related exterior wear, while the interior remains attractive. The opera glasses retain a wonderful aged brass patina and the mother-of-pearl displays beautifully with pink, green and gold iridescence.
A beautiful surviving French theater accessory and antique optical collectible. Please review all photographs closely for condition.
