Antique Lenox 86 1-2 Coffee Pot Creamer Sugar Set Gold Band Green Backstamp 1/2 For Sale

Three-piece Lenox porcelain serving set in pattern 86½: covered coffee pot, creamer, and covered sugar bowl. Smooth ivory ground with broad gold bands, fine gold lines, and gilded handles and trim. Early green Lenox wreath marks and handwritten pattern designations; the accompanying base numbers are 741, 743, and 744. We have a 742 teapot in the same pattern available separately. The pieces have matching decoration and comparable age-related wear and were very likely paired since new. Production c1925-1930. Replacements specifies c1925- and this set doesn't have the backstamp with 'made in usa', started in 1930. (Lenox archivistEllen Denker)

Lenox made this restrained classical design in an extensive assortment of serving forms and size variations. The pot is approx. 10.25" high with lid and 8.5" across including handle and spout. The sugar bowl measures approx. 5.25" high with lid and 7.5" across the handles. The creamer stands just over 5" high. The pot could also be used to serve hot chocolate. Lenox made a similar 9.5" chocolate pot with a different opening.

• The underside of the sugar bowl lid has a small chip and a fine, stable crack. The crack does not extend through to the top of the lid; neither is visible when the lid is seated for display. Details are shown in the annotated photos.
• A tiny casting divot on the sugar bowl was gilded over during production. Two small marks in the gilding beneath one lid knob also appear to date from production.
• There are light marks on the coffee pot handle, minor scattered marks to the gilding, wear to the unglazed base rings, and a few tiny brown production marks. The gilding retains good coverage with some age-related patina.
• The interiors are clean. No crazing or other chips were observed. The green Lenox mark on one piece is partially rubbed, with remnants of the lettering still visible.
• Pieces all sit stable on flat surface, extremely fine base planes on coffee pot and creamer only, but barely worth mentioning.

Each component will be wrapped first in archival tissue and then individually in heavy protective foam.
