These volumes retain their original green embossed cloth bindings with bright gilt decoration on the spines and front covers. The books feature attractive Victorian decorative bindings and make an impressive display on a bookshelf.
The title page of The Improvisatore is dated 1869, and the front matter notes this was issued as part of Andersen\'s complete works published by arrangement with the author. One volume contains a period ownership inscription dated August 10, 1870 at Catskills Mountain House,adding a nice piece of provenance.
This is a partial set of seven volumes, not a complete collection.
These antique books are in good overall condition for their age and present beautifully on display. The original green embossed cloth bindings retain bright gilt decoration with moderate shelf and edge wear, including bumped corners, light rubbing, and some wear at the spine ends. The bindings appear sound, and no loose or detached covers were noted. The pages show expected age toning with occasional light foxing and minor marks consistent with use and age. The improvisatore contains a period owner\'s inscription dated August 10, 1870 Catskills Mountain House. Each book has black marker on the front inside cover and pages as well as M.S.S on some of the title pages. There are no missing or torn pages. Please review all photos carefully, as they are an important part of the item\'s condition and description.
