This antique copy of Hans Andersen\'s Fairy Tales published by Humphrey Milford in London contains 17 tipped-in color plates with delightfully art nouveau artwork by Rie Cramer and L. A. Govey. The endpapers feature pretty silhouette artwork and there are some intermittent cut-ins. The warm green cloth cover features beautiful artwork of what looks like a hunting party done in beautifully soft colors and gold gilding, and the edges of the pages are deckled. A scarce and highly collectible book for any fairy tale lover.
This book measures about 9 1/2 inches tall by 7 inches wide. The cover is in beautiful condition, but does show its age; it has a slight curve to it and the head and tail of the spin are bumped. The cloth is also tearing away from the spine along the top. The endpapers are tanned and the first page with the frontispiece is loosening. The binding is loose, though holding, and the pages appear to be clean with all plates accounted for.
