Authentic African hand-carved wooden tribal mask with natural raffia hair, in the style of the Baule people of Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast), West Africa. Ready to hang.
Detailed Description:
• Elongated wooden face mask carved from dense hardwood
• Dark brown finish with rich, aged patina
• Prominent raised central ridge running from the forehead down the bridge of the nose
• Twin stylized bird or abstract motifs carved on the forehead, each outlined with twisted rope-like detailing
• Narrow slit eyes
• Strong, elongated nose
• Diamond-shaped mouth with some residual green pigment in the recessed areas
• Full fringe of natural raffia fiber attached around the lower face and sides, creating a beard/hair effect
• Carved chevron / zigzag patterns on the top of the head (stylized coiffure or headdress)
• Back is deeply hollowed with visible tool marks and natural wood grain
• Small metal wire already attached at the top — ready to hang 7 inches wide × 16inches tall (including raffia)
Origin: Baule style, Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast), West Africa
Circa: Mid-to-late 20th century (approx. 1960s–1980s)
Condition:
Very Good overall for its age. Shows expected surface wear, minor nicks, and residual green pigment in some carved areas. Raffia is intact and displays well. The mask has a nice weight and strong presence. Wire hanger is already installed.
This is a striking and decorative African mask with excellent visual impact. Ideal for wall display in a collection of ethnographic art, tribal decor, or as a bold statement piece.
