French silver Jeton dated 1838 for the Canal de Pierrelatte, featuring an elegant allegorical design representing irrigation and navigation. This substantial octagonal piece measures approximately 35 mm and weighs 19.54 grams.
The obverse depicts a seated female figure holding a rudder and pouring water from a vessel, with a detailed landscape behind her. The inscription “IRRIGATION NAVIGATION” highlights the canal’s agricultural and transportation purposes.
The reverse features inscriptions within a wreath, including the name Polonceau and the date 1838, with the engraver’s signature “CAQUÉ F.” below. An antique lamp hallmark appears on the edge.
