THE FARMER\'S STABLE – AFTER GEORGE MORLAND
ENGRAVED BY WILLIAM WARD

A highly atmospheric large framed equestrian stable scene entitled “The Farmer’s Stable”, after the celebrated British painter George Morland and engraved by William Ward.
The lower margin carries the original printed inscriptions including:
“Painted by G. Morland”
“Engraved by W. Ward”
and centrally:
“London Pubd April 9. 1792 by T Simpson St Pauls Church Yard”
“THE FARMER’S STABLE.”
The image depicts an evocative stable interior with horses, figures and animals, displaying the rural subject matter for which George Morland became particularly celebrated.
This is a particularly impressive decorative example due to its substantial size, aged appearance and strong period character.
The print displays considerable natural age and surface character, including areas of discolouration, foxing/spotting, marks, toning and general age-related wear. These have deliberately not been concealed and can be seen in the detailed photographs.
The framed presentation also shows age-related wear, including some small areas of loss and wear to the frame.
The reverse has been photographed in detail and shows a backing board, hanging wire and an old handwritten inventory/reference label numbered “1337”. The framing/backing appears to have been renewed or altered at some point during the life of the piece.

CONDITION
Antique/vintage condition with visible age-related wear, marks, toning, spotting and surface imperfections to the print and mount, together with some wear and small losses to the frame.

The names, title and publication date stated above are taken directly from the inscriptions visible on the print itself. The inscription records publication in London on 9 April 1792. The precise printing date/state of this individual impression has not been independently authenticated, and it is therefore not represented as a confirmed first-state or first-edition 1792 impression.
