ca1875 Des Moines Iowa Map Birdseye View Hawkeye Insurance Capital Courthouse For Sale

This is an original 1875 atlas birdseye view map of Des Moines (not dated) which was removed from an 1875 Iowa \"breaker\" atlas. This map was originally sponsored by Hawkeye Insurance Company whose roots are in Des Moines. The building where Hawkeye Insurance began is identified on the map and remains as the oldest commercial office building in Des Moines today.

• This map measures about 17-1/8\" x 14-1/8\". The dollar bill in one of the photos is used for scale.

• There is a numbered index to this map along the bottom center. (see photos). There are corresponding numbers on the map that identify the buildings. These buildings include the State Capital, the Courthouse, the Hawkeye Insurance Building (which is still standing and is who originally sponsored this atlas ad), the B.F. Allen residence, and many others.

• On the opposite side of this is a grouping of various figures (people) from Iowa government and society from the time period include B.F. Allen whose residence is identified on this map. (the lithograph on the opposite side is in a different orientation to this map)
