Offered for sale is an original c.1910 University of Kansas collegiate tobacco leather / cigarette premium.This early collectible features a triangular pennant design with “U. of Kansas” printed in red on a light-colored leather background. Unlike many of the rectangular collegiate leathers from this period, this example is actually cut in the shape of a traditional college pennant.These small leather pieces were distributed during the early 20th century as tobacco/cigarette premiums and featured colleges and universities from around the country. Today they are collectible both as early tobacco advertising premiums and as some of the earliest forms of collegiate memorabilia.The leather remains in good antique condition for its age, with visible age toning, surface wear, spotting/discoloration and some wear along the edges.
