• RARE c.1897 WHITE POND SCHOOL — AIKEN COUNTY, SOUTH CAROLINA
  Original 19th-Century School Photograph — Students Identified on Reverse
  
  Offered here is an exceptional original circa-1897 school photograph identified on the reverse as White Pond School, with evidence supporting its attribution to White Pond, Aiken County, South Carolina.
  
  The photograph shows approximately 20 schoolchildren and their teacher posed outside the wooden school building. The image provides a wonderful glimpse of rural American education at the close of the 19th century, with excellent period detail in the children’s clothing, hairstyles and expressions.
  
  What makes this photograph particularly desirable is the handwritten identification on the reverse.

There is expected age wear, including edge/corner wear and surface imperfections.The reverse has substantial remnants of old black album or mounting material, which obscure portions of the handwritten inscription. Importantly, considerable original handwriting remains visible.The reverse has been left exactly as found. No attempt has been made to remove the old mounting material or clean the inscription.Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description.
