Thisis the original Winchester Pre-64 Stock Oil developed, used and sold by JohnKay in his Winchester Restorations Business for many years.
JohnKay was a master restorer of old Winchester guns and his company was WinchesterRestorations. In 2008 he had to retire for health reasons and his Stock Oil wasno longer available for sale. I have arranged to sell it. This is John’s oil formula, which is a100% linseed oil-based formula and probably as close to the original Winchesteroil as any available. I have useda number of those advertised as “Winchester” stock oil. Most are not a realoil-based formula, or they do not use or use very little linseed oil. Many/most have a varnish type base orcontent. If a formula can beapplied in 2 or 3 coats over a few days, then it is not a true linseed oilformula like Winchester used for most of their early guns, until the 1940’s.
Usinga linseed oil based product takes time and effort. A real oil finish goes intothe wood not on the wood. Usingthis product will take 30 or more days to complete the restoration and willgive an original Winchester type satin hand rubbed oil finish. It can be usedon old stocks & forearms and on new wood. It is not just a coat on the wood surface like a varnish. Ifyou want something you can complete in a week or less, this is not what youwant. I will be glad to send you the complete instructions before you purchaseso you know what is involved. You will get out of your restoration what you putinto it.
I have used this product on about 100 oldWinchester 73, 92 & 94 rifles and carbines with excellent results. One 4-oz bottle contains enough oil torestore several guns, usually 5 to 10. The 2 oz bottle is for touch-uprestoration and/or refinishing 3 to 5 rifles. It is ideal for applying to those antique firearms that have a good original oil finish inorder to retain their original finish. Instructions are emailed with each purchase.
