Original antique engraving titled Second Stage of Cruelty by William Hogarth, from his celebrated Four Stages of Cruelty series, published according to Act of Parliament in February 1751. Powerful moral satire depicting escalating violence and social decay in 18th-century London, engraved after Hogarth’s original design. Plate shows strong line work with period toning, visible plate impression, and age-appropriate wear. Mounted to board, measuring approximately 15 x 17 inches overall. Condition issues include edge wear, scattered foxing/toning, and a visible crack and old tape repair to the mounting board on the reverse, all consistent with age and historical display. A genuine 18th-century Hogarth engraving with excellent presence, suitable for collectors of British satire, social history, or early moral reform imagery.
