This is Antique 19th-century hand-colored print of William Hogarth's famous satirical engraving "The Bench", depicting four court judges lost in thought, slumber, and apathy while sitting on the bench. The lower margin retains the historical inscription: "A Fac Simile of Hogarth's own Engraving, intended to show the difference between Character and Caracatura, &c."
Provenance: Includes the original vintage gallery label on the backing paper from Omniphil Ltd. (Stand 110, Grays Antique Market, Davies St., London W.1), verifying it as a "HAND COLOURED - OVER 100 YEARS OLD" restrike.
