In 1964, a cultural figure was awarded the medal for the first time — sculptor S. T. Konenkov.
The first person to be awarded the medal twice was the 1st Minister of Medium Machine Building (during the war — Minister of Ammunition) B. L. Vannikov. In total, 180 people were awarded the medal twice, including rocket designer S. P. Korolev, curator of rocket construction in the Council of Ministers of the USSR D. F. Ustinov, aircraft designers S. A. Lavochkin, Artyom Mikoyan, and A. S. Yakovlev, writer M. A. Sholokhov, sculptor E. V. Vuchetich, ballerina G. S. Ulanova[2].
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet dated May 14, 1973, the restriction on the number of times the medal could be awarded — no more than three (1940) — was lifted, but no one became a four-time Hero of Socialist Labor.
In 1988, awarding the Order of Lenin during a repeated presentation of the medal was canceled.
The last person to be awarded the title of Hero of Socialist Labor was the Kazakh opera singer and teacher Bibigul Tulegenova: the decree of her award is dated December 21, 1991, and it was signed by PresidentUSSR Mikhail Gorbachev
