WWII U.S. Army infantry officer uniform grouping associated with Robert K. Midyett of Company G, 274th Infantry Regiment, 70th Infantry Division—the “Trailblazers.”The grouping includes the four-pocket lieutenant’s coat, khaki shirt, overseas cap, Midyett’s named dog tags, and the photographs shown. The coat displays a 70th Infantry Division patch, infantry officer insignia, Combat Infantryman Badge, ribbon bar, and overseas service bars.Midyett’s documented service tells an unusual story. The 70th Division’s wartime newspaper identified him as a Company G staff sergeant in March 1945; a later Company G roster listed him as a second lieutenant.Also included is a printed extract from the U.S. Army Surgeon General’s Office hospital admission records for service number 37621070. It records a January 1945 admission as a battle casualty with a projectile wound to the leg. The record lists 24 hospital days and a return to duty. It identifies him as an enlisted man at the time, consistent with his later commission.Neither the coat nor the shirt is named inside.
