DESCRIPTION:
A commemorative medal for the 2000th anniversary of the German city of Trier, dated 1984, in a 2x2 cardboard holder. One side reads "2000 Jahre Stadt Trier, 16 v. Chr. - 1984, Deutschlands älteste Stadt" (2000 Years of the City of Trier, 16 BC - 1984, Germany's oldest city), around a detailed scene of the city's Roman and medieval landmarks that appears to include the Porta Nigra, the cathedral, and the Roman bridge. The other side shows a laureate Roman head in profile in the style of an ancient Roman coin, with a Latin legend that appears to include "Caesar" and "Patriae." Trier was founded as Augusta Treverorum in 16 BC under the Roman Emperor Augustus and is regarded as Germany's oldest city. A nice piece for Roman history and Germany collectors, medal and token collectors, or Trier and Moselle region souvenirs.
CONDITION: Used but bright and well preserved, with a dark antiqued bronze-colored finish and light toning (see photos). The design and lettering are sharp on both sides. The metal is bronze-colored and has not been tested. Size and maker are not identified. Please review all photos closely before purchasing.
