This gorgeous Viners of Sheffield, England Alpha Plate tea and coffee service looks as though it belongs on a beautifully set table awaiting Lady Whistledown\'s latest society paper.
The four-piece set includes a teapot, coffee/hot-water pot, creamer and open sugar bowl, all finished in gleaming silver plate and accented with an elegant repeating floral-and-leaf border. The two larger pots feature striking black handles and finials that give the service a particularly sophisticated English look.
The underside carries the wonderful period-style maker\'s mark:
“Corporate Mark – Alpha – Granted by The Cutlers Company 1836 – Alpha Plate – Viners of Sheffield – England.”
Important historical note: The “1836” appearing in the mark relates to the Cutlers Company/Alpha trademark history and should not be interpreted as the manufacturing date of this particular set. This is a vintage Viners of Sheffield service, but I am not representing the pieces themselves as dating to 1836.
