Up for sale is a is Suzuki (3/4 size) Model 500 violin. The inner label has a mfg. date of 1987 but does not name the individual luthier that assembled the instrument.
The 3/4 scale, according to Suzuki\'s size chart, should measure 55.6 cm. It measures 22 7/8” so it\'s pretty close. Considering it’s 40 years old, the newer size chart might have changed in that time.
The violin has been played but the overall wear is fairly minimal with the exception of the back of the neck. The finish there has completely worn away but it\'s the only part of the instrument that\'s continually held. My guitars all have very similar wear, depending on how much i play them.
There are some small marks under the soundpost but i think that\'s just from age and tension pressing the soundpost into the finish. There\'s no bow included and the soundpost is a French-made Aubert replacement.
It\'s also fitted with a clamp-on chin rest and shoulder pad rest. Some of the rubber tubing has dried out but I\'m sure surgical tubing or something from the hardware store would easily correct that.
The back of body looks like it\'s made of flame maple with beautiful figuring. I\'m not sure what the rest of the body is constructed of but i don\'t think it’s maple. Possibly spruce or poplar but the wide grain is not maple. I could be wrong but it looks very similar to many of my spruce top acoustic guitars.
