Vintage Shovelnose RC Hydroplane Hull Kit – 28”, 34” & 39”
Vintage-style shovelnose RC hydroplane hull available in 28\", 34\", and 39\" sizes.
Each hull is 3D printed in white PETG and comes as a 7-piece unassembled kit. The three sizes were laid out around the general size range of N, P, and Q fast-electric sport hydro setups.
This listing is for the unfinished printed hull only. It will need to be assembled, reinforced, finished, and rigged with your own electronics and running hardware.
AVAILABLE SIZES28 Inch
Length: 28\" / approximately 711mm
Width: approximately 15.4\"
7-piece hull kit
Smaller lightweight option
Good starting size for an N-style fast-electric setup
34 Inch
Length: 34\" / 864mm
Width: approximately 17.4\" / 441mm
7-piece hull kit
More room for batteries and electronics
Good starting size for a P-style fast-electric setup
39 Inch
Length: 39\" / 991mm
Width: approximately 19.9\" / 506mm
7-piece hull kit
Larger hull with more room for heavier-duty running hardware
Good starting size for a Q-style fast-electric setup
CONSTRUCTION
Each hull is printed in white PETG.
PETG works well for these hulls because it has a little more give than PLA while still being easy to sand, epoxy, reinforce, prime, and paint.
Like any unfinished 3D printed hull, normal layer lines, section seams, and minor surface imperfections should be expected.
The hull can be left fairly simple for a basic running setup or fully sanded, filled, primed, and painted for a smoother finished appearance.
RECOMMENDED ELECTRONICS
The exact setup will depend on the hull size, finished weight, battery voltage, motor KV, and the speed you are looking for.
These are good starting points.
28\" Starting Setup
36mm brushless inrunner
80A–100A water-cooled marine ESC
2S–4S LiPo depending on motor KV
20kg+ waterproof steering servo
3/16\" flex shaft
Adjustable hydro strut
Approximately 36–42mm propeller
34\" Starting Setup
3660 or 3674 brushless motor
100A–150A water-cooled marine ESC
3S–4S LiPo
20kg+ waterproof steering servo
3/16\" flex shaft
Adjustable hydro strut
Approximately 38–42mm propeller
39\" Starting Setup
4074-size brushless motor
150A+ water-cooled marine ESC
5S–6S LiPo
High-torque waterproof steering servo
Heavy-duty 3/16\" flex shaft
Adjustable strut and rudder
Propeller matched to your motor KV and battery voltage
These are starting recommendations only.
Hydroplanes can be very sensitive to prop size, strut height, CG, finished weight, and battery placement. I recommend starting with a conservative prop and checking motor, ESC, battery, wiring, and connector temperatures as you tune the boat.
ASSEMBLY
The hull comes in 7 separate printed sections and requires assembly.
For assembly, I recommend lightly sanding the mating surfaces and getting all of the sections lined up before permanently bonding anything.
I’ve had good results using a few small drops of CA glue to hold the sections in position and then reinforcing the main joints with two-part epoxy.
Make sure the hull is straight and square before the adhesive fully cures.
For higher-power setups, fiberglass or carbon fiber cloth with epoxy is strongly recommended, especially on the larger 34\" and 39\" hulls.
WHAT\'S INCLUDED
NOT shaft
Stuffing tube
Drive or carbon or finishing supplies
LIMITED WARRANTY
I warranty my printed parts against manufacturing defects in the material or printing process at the time of purchase.
This does not cover damage caused by crashes, impacts, improper assembly, incorrect bonding or reinforcement, water intrusion, incorrect electronics, overheating, oversized props, excessive power, improper setup, or normal wear and tear.
Normal characteristics of 3D printing such as layer lines, section seams, and minor surface variations are not considered defects unless they affect the strength or intended use of the part.
Sanding, drilling, painting, or reinforcing the hull does not automatically void the warranty. However, damage caused by those modifications is not covered.
If there is a legitimate manufacturing defect, I’ll work with you on an appropriate solution. Depending on the issue, this may include repair, a replacement section, replacement component, store credit, or another agreed solution.
Proof of purchase is required, and I may ask for photos, video, or return of the affected part so I can determine what happened.
DIY Hulls
These hulls are sold as unfinished DIY kits unless otherwise stated.
The final strength of the boat depends heavily on how it is assembled, bonded, reinforced, and rigged.
For higher-powered builds, I strongly recommend reinforcing the hull with epoxy, fiberglass, carbon fiber, or a combination of these materials.
I cannot guarantee a specific speed, runtime, handling characteristic, or maximum safe power level because every boat is assembled and set up differently.
Electronics
Any electronics or prop recommendations in my listings are starting points based on the size and intended setup of the hull.
Battery voltage, prop size and pitch, motor load, cooling, finished weight, and CG all need to work together.
When testing a new setup, start conservatively and check motor, ESC, battery, wiring, and connector temperatures.
Damage caused by an incorrectly selected or configured power system is not considered a manufacturing defect.
Replacement Sections
Things happen with RC boats.
If you damage part of the hull in a crash or another situation that isn\'t covered by warranty, replacement printed sections may be available for purchase.
Send me a few clear pictures through Messages and I can usually determine which section you need.
Warranty Claims
For warranty questions, contact me through Messages before returning anything.
Please include your order number, a description of the problem, and clear pictures or video when applicable.
Any returns will be handled based on the individual situation and applicable policies.
Safe Operation
Always inspect the hull, rudder, strut, prop, steering linkage, fasteners, batteries, wiring, and electronics before running the boat.
Keep high-performance RC boats away from swimmers, animals, docks, shorelines, and full-size boats.
The builder/operator is responsible for proper assembly, setup, maintenance, and safe operation.
This limited warranty is governed by the laws of the State of New York, except where federal law or other applicable consumer protections apply. Nothing in this warranty is intended to limit rights that cannot legally be waived.
