Up for sale is a beautiful pair of vintage, Pre-Columbian style clay effigy whistles (vessel flutes / ocarinas). These pieces have been in my personal collection for over 35 years. I purchased them directly at a local store while vacationing in Mexico back in the late 1980s / early 1990s. They are finely crafted regional artisan folk art from that era, beautifully capturing the traditional aesthetics and acoustic designs of ancient Mesoamerican pottery. 1. **Shaman / Human Rider Ocarina (Brown Clay):
** Features a classic West Mexican (Colima/Jalisco inspired) motif of a human or shaman figure riding atop a bulbous ceramic sound chamber.
The piece displays a burnished reddish-brown finish with stylized, incised geometric linework accentuated by a white wash. Includes a functional sound hole/fipple on the flat base and finger holes on the sides. 2. **Frog / Toad Ocarina (Bi-Chrome Clay):
** A highly charming, sculpted frog effigy flute featuring four distinct pitch holes on its upper back. The body is decorated with an earthen brown and green bi-chrome slip finish, highlighted with a small splash of red pigment near the head.
A rectangular sound hole is built seamlessly into the base near the rear feet.
**Condition:** Excellent vintage pre-owned condition with no structural cracks, major chips, or repairs.
