Vintage Maverick Microsystems International MICR II Check Encoder, Model M202, Serial No. 15255.
This is an uncommon commercial MICR encoding machine originally designed for processing/encoding checks and other banking documents.
The machine was carefully tested and the following functions were confirmed:
* Powers on normally.
* Display illuminates clearly and is readable.
* On startup, machine displays the Maverick Microsystems copyright information and reaches its ready state.
* Numeric keypad responds to input.
* Function/programmable field keys respond and produce prompts on the display.
* Tested prompts/messages include TRANSIT NUMBER, ENTRY REQUIRED, NO ENTRY MADE, AMOUNT TOTAL, FIELDS OVERLAP, and TEAR OR DOG-EAR?
* Machine accepts numeric entries and displays them correctly.
* Check/document transport mechanism works.
* A check inserted into the machine is grabbed and transported completely through the mechanism.
* Internal printing/encoding mechanism actuates during testing.
* Installed MICR ribbon cartridge is present.
* Ribbon advances/moves when the machine cycles, confirming that the ribbon transport mechanism is operating.
* During a previous test, the machine produced the very faint markings shown in the photos on the check. The printing mechanism could be heard/observed actuating.
The installed ribbon appears to be extremely dry/exhausted due to age. Because the ribbon advances and the print mechanism actuates, we believe the faint output is consistent with an exhausted ribbon. However, a new ribbon was not installed, so proper MICR printing with a fresh ribbon has NOT been verified. The buyer should therefore expect that the machine may require a replacement ribbon and possibly additional servicing/adjustment before regular use.
We were unable to determine the correct programming/entry sequence necessary to perform every original encoding function, so the machine has not been tested through a complete normal banking workflow.
Important condition notes
F8 keycap is MISSING. The switch/button underneath is present. Please see photos.
One screw is MISSING from the bottom panel. This is clearly visible in the underside photo.
The machine shows normal cosmetic wear from age and previous commercial use, including scratches, marks, discoloration and wear to labels/decals. Please examine all photos closely for exact cosmetic condition.
An AC power cord is included and was used successfully for testing. I do not know whether the power cord is original to the machine.
The installed MICR ribbon cartridge is included, but it appears dried/exhausted and should be considered in need of replacement.
No manuals, additional accessories, replacement ribbon or other items are included unless specifically pictured.
Because this is specialized vintage commercial equipment approximately four decades old, it is being sold based strictly on the testing described above. No guarantee is made regarding functions that could not be tested.
