Exceptional vintage collection of approximately 18 rolls of fine lace and decorative trim, containing an estimated 500+ linear yards of material.
This is a particularly nice collection of vintage sewing and dressmaking lace, from a professional seamstress, consisting of substantial rolls rather than small remnants or craft scraps. There is a wide variety of patterns, textures and widths, with rolls ranging from approximately 1/2\" to 2 3/4\" wide. Most of the rolls are between 3/4\" and 1.5\".
The majority of the rolls appear to contain approximately 100 feet each, with a few shorter rolls containing approximately 50 feet, and one with approximately 20 ft (last column, middle row). The blue/white roll is substantially larger than the others.
The material is in very nice vintage condition overall. The collection was stored in a conditioned, smoke-free environment and is free of noticeable odors or pest damage. Some pieces may benefit from gentle cleaning if desired.
Three of the rolls retain their original Hirschberg, Schutz & Co., Broadway, New York City labels.
The collection appears to date from approximately the late 1970s–1980s, although I cannot establish an exact manufacturing date for every piece. The quality, variety and presentation of the material are notably different from the contemporary imported lace and inexpensive craft trim commonly encountered today.
