The textile features a repeating series of large circular and linear geometric motifs, giving it a striking 1960s/1970s Scandinavian modernist appearance. The edge is clearly marked “GRETE LUNØE PIHL,” providing an excellent identifying feature for the designer.
Grete Lunøe Pihl is a documented Norwegian artist associated with textile and applied arts. Her work appears to be relatively uncommon on the secondary market, making this an especially interesting piece for collectors of Norwegian design, Scandinavian textiles and Mid-Century Modern decorative arts.
