This is a beautiful 30-piece Art Deco vintage silverplated flatware service in the classic "Washington Irving" pattern (also sometimes called Old Dominion) by Gorham, originally patented in 1923. Each piece features an elegant, stepped scalloped edge motif with a smooth central panel engraved with a stylized "A" monogram. A unique feature of this particular set is that the pieces bear the historical luxury retailer stamp for SHREVE alongside the maker’s marks on the back. This indicates it was originally purchased through one of America’s premier historic Gilded Age jewelry firms.

The backs of the dinner forks and soup spoons are stamped with the manufacturer hallmark: "GORHAM E P PAT. 1923 S" alongside the luxury retailer stamp for SHREVE, CRUMP & LOW CO.”. The back of the salad forks are marked the same except they are have a 1924 date, rather than 1923. The knives are marked GORHAM EP on the side of the handles, and GORHAM STAINLESS above a star on the blades.
