Vintage Gene Edwards De Luxe #40 split-bamboo spinning rod with two differently configured tip sections, cloth rod bag, and aluminum storage tube.
The rod is hand-scripted:
“Gene Edwards – De Luxe – #40”
This rod includes two tip sections that produce two different assembled lengths:
* Approximately 7’0” with the shorter tip
* Approximately 7’6” with the longer tip
The two tips also have noticeably different guide sizes and tip-top sizes. Both appear consistent with the rod in bamboo color, wrap style, finish, and ferrule construction. No obvious evidence of a shortened or re-tipped repair was observed during visual inspection. Their original intended fishing applications have not been independently verified.
The rod features attractive amber/orange split-bamboo construction, dark burgundy wraps with contrasting trim, vintage spinning-style guides, metal ferrules, and a cork grip.
Condition: Vintage pre-owned condition with age and fishing wear throughout. The bamboo retains attractive color and finish with scattered surface marks and wear consistent with age and use. Guides, wraps, ferrules, and other metal hardware are present and show normal age-related wear, oxidation, and patina. The cork grip shows substantial wear, darkening, ridging, pitting, cracking, and surface loss. The two tip sections differ in length and guide configuration as shown in the photos. No obvious major bamboo break or severe delamination was observed during visual inspection. The rod has not been professionally restored or evaluated, and no guarantee is made regarding fishing performance.
The cork has been left untouched rather than sanded, filled, or refinished in order to preserve the rod’s vintage character.
