A killer piece of vintage Japanese guitar history, this Dorado by Gretsch Model 5969 dates to the 1970s and delivers the look, feel, and character that have made vintage Japanese acoustics increasingly sought after.
The 5969 features a classic full-size dreadnought body with a natural spruce top and beautifully figured dark back and sides, accented by body binding and a decorative center back strip. The traditional rosewood-style bridge, simple dot fingerboard markers, black pickguard, and distinctive “Dorado by Gretsch” headstock give it an unmistakable period appearance.
Inside, the original Dorado by Gretsch label remains intact and clearly identifies it as Model 5969, while the back of the headstock carries its Made in Japan designation.
This example presents remarkably well for a roughly 50-year-old instrument. It shows normal signs of age and use but retains a clean, handsome vintage appearance. It also includes a Gretsch-branded hardshell case, making for a particularly cool package.
