Vintage Australian Flag 6 x 3 ft Sewn Wool Bunting Applique Stars Blue Ensign For Sale

Vintage Australian national flag in the Blue Ensign pattern, with the Union Jack canton, Commonwealth Star, and Southern Cross. Construction is sewn rather than printed. The Union Jack and all stars are separate appliqued pieces with zigzag stitching, set on a blue bunting field that appears to be wool. The Commonwealth Star has seven points, consistent with the design standardized after 1908. The white hoist heading is hand marked in red pen with 6 x 3 and AUST. The flag measures approximately 73 inches on the long side by 36 inches, matching the 6 x 3 ft marking. Both hoist corners carry a natural fiber rope halyard fitted with metal clips, one with a crimped aluminum sleeve. Condition: used, with the honest age patina of a working flag. The blue field is mottled with uneven fade, the white heading and Union Jack whites show yellow toning and soiling, and the stars carry light toning and a few faint marks. The fly edge is worn and frayed with loose fibers, there are loose thread ends at the corners, and a few small light flecks show in the blue. Seams and appliqued pieces are intact, with no large tears visible.
