Vintage 48-star American flag manufactured by Annin & Co. under the Defiance brand.This is a large 4 ft x 6 ft flag constructed from two-ply cotton bunting with individually sewn/appliquéd stars and sewn red and white stripes. It retains its original “Defiance – Cotton Bunting – Two Ply – Moth Proof – Annin” manufacturer’s label and heavy canvas heading with metal grommets.The 48-star American flag was the official U.S. flag from 1912 through 1959. Based on the Annin/Defiance label and construction, this appears consistent with a mid-20th-century example.
