Here is a vintage Raymond Weil that is considerably more interesting on the wrist than the usual traditional dress watch.
Reference 9122 combines an ultra-slim, round case with a dramatic integrated bracelet and striped dial, creating an almost continuous horizontal pattern from one end of the watch to the other. The alternating gold, silver and reflective gold elements give it a wonderful jewelry-like quality, while the minimalist two-hand dial and slim profile keep the overall design surprisingly elegant.
Watch enthusiasts will immediately recognize the aesthetic connection to the legendary Piaget Polo. The original Polo, introduced in 1979, became famous for treating the watch and bracelet as a single design, carrying horizontal gadroons across the bracelet, case and dial. This Raymond Weil takes that same wonderfully extravagant late-1970s/1980s design language in its own direction. It is not affiliated with Piaget, of course, but for someone who appreciates that era of ultra-thin integrated-bracelet watches, the resemblance in design philosophy is part of the appeal.
The dial is particularly attractive in person. Broad champagne/gold and silver-toned horizontal bands are separated by thin reflective gold lines, with an applied RW emblem at 12, RAYMOND WEIL / GENEVE signature, and QUARTZ above 6. A pair of sharply faceted gold-tone hands completes the unusually clean, markerless design.
The caseback is signed RAYMOND WEIL / 18 K GOLD ELECTROPLATED / 10 / 9122, identifying the watch as reference 9122. The bracelet retains its wonderfully textured alternating-metal appearance and gives the entire watch much more wrist presence than its approximately 33mm case width (excluding crown) would suggest.
Condition: Very good pre-owned condition and currently working properly. The case and bracelet show remarkably little wear for a vintage piece and present extremely cleanly on the wrist. There are a few very minor micro-scratches on the mineral crystal, visible under close inspection and certain lighting, but nothing that substantially detracts from the appearance of the watch when worn. Please examine the photographs closely, as they form an important part of the condition description.
The integrated bracelet is currently sized to fit a wrist of up to approximately 7 inches.
This is an unusual vintage Raymond Weil with considerably more personality than most of the brand’s conventional dress pieces: thin, elegant, unmistakably period, and an affordable way to enjoy the extravagant integrated-bracelet aesthetic associated with some of the most desirable luxury watches of the era.
