Up for sale is a classic 1973 Vintage Bulova 23 Automatic featuring the in-house 11AOACB 23-jewel movement (N3 date code) in a iconic cushion-style stainless steel case.
Case & Cosmetics:
Case: Solid stainless steel cushion case in very good structural condition. Crisp edges with NO deep scratches or gouges. It will restore beautifully with a light satin/brushed refinishing.
Crystal: Acrylic crystal has scratches and will need replacement.
Bracelet: Original authentic Bulova stainless steel bracelet. Very clean links with minimal wear. Appears to be nearly full length (19 main links total, likely missing just 1 link from factory length).
Clasp: Original sign clasp. Shows minor desk-diving scratches (some slightly catch a fingernail), but these should easily buff out during a standard satin refinish.
Internal Inspection & Condition Notes:
As a vintage watch enthusiast, I personally opened the case back using proper horological tools to inspect the movement:
Movement: The Bulova 11AOACB automatic movement is in clean, honorable condition. Zero rust, no signs of moisture damage, and no deep grime on the movement bridges.
Gasket: The original rubber case back gasket has deteriorated/expanded due to age and was discarded (needs a new gasket upon service).
Assembly Note: The movement spacer ring and case back were carefully replaced and the locking ring was hand-tightened snugly—just enough to secure the case while leaving it easy to open for the next owner's service or repair.
Mechanical Status:
Operation: After briefly shaking/moving the rotor by hand, the balance wheel picks up and the watch runs smoothly for about a minute before stopping.
Winding Mechanism: When turning the winding crown manually, there is no audible clicking sound from the mainspring click. This is typical for an automatic movement where the mainspring is either fully wound (bridged by the slipping bridle/clutch mechanism) or where vintage lubricants have dried up over time.
Summary: The watch is mechanically intact and alive, but due to age and dried-up factory oils, it is sold AS-IS for service, cleaning (overhaul/repassages), or restoration.
