Vintage 1957-58 Leupold Pioneer 8x 1\" scope XLNT X-hair on perfect clear optics For Sale

This extremely rare 8X model of the Leupold Pioneer was only produced between 1957 and 1958. It was the only Pioneer scope made with a full 1\" tube. It requires a mount with external adjustments. Leupold continued making scopes without internal adjustments because many hunters wanted a fool-proof scope, and were leery that internal adjustments might fail on a hunt.
There are currently NO Pioneer 8X scopes on or Gunbroker. This is an extremely rare scope.Given that this scope is almost 70 years old, I will still guarantee that it is operationally 100% perfect, as new. All mechanical and optical aspects of the scope are as close to new as possible. The finish on the scope is \"good +\", with numerous scuffs and surface marks. There are 4 or 5 small \"copper-ish\" marks on the finish, and there are 8 small dots, two rows of 4, in the external mount area. Nowhere on the scope are there any dents or dings in the finish....just the marks I have indicated. I would not hesitate for a minute to put this on a premium 1950\'s model 70, or other fine rifle.
The scope is 14\" long, and weighs a mere 11 ounces. The outside diameter of the eyepiece is 1.5\", and the diameter of the objective tube is 1.75\".
The eyepiece turns easily to proper focus, and the lock ring solidly holds the focus point. There is no wiggle, or movement of any kind, in the eyepiece.The view through the scope is almost unbelievable. Bright and clear, from edge to edge. The view verifies why Leupold set the standard for clarity 70 years ago. The crosshairs are perfectly centered.
The view through the scope is exceptional. The slanted tree closeup on the right is 110 yards, the small electric boxes are 203 yards, and the home across the golf course is a perfectly clear 359 yards. All points are in focus, and clear.
