Up for sale is a fantastic piece of mid-century Chicago history: a rare original vintage paper credit card issued by the legendary Sherman House Hotel (colloquially known simply as "The Sherman"). Before major multi-merchant cards like Visa or Mastercard took over the market, premier luxury destinations like The Sherman issued their own exclusive paper credit cards to frequent travelers, business executives, and local high-rollers. These cards granted guests seamless charging privileges across the hotel’s 1,600 rooms and its world-famous nightlife venues, including the iconic College Inn and the Panther Room. The Sherman operated for over 130 years, from 1837 to 1973. The building was completely demolished in 1980. This card is a must-have artifact for collectors of vintage credit cards, hospitality ephemera, or Chicago architectural history.
