A 19th-century Victorian box crafted from a beautiful dark exotic wood veneer (possibly coromandel or rosewood) with engraved mother-of-pearl inlay.Please note that this box appears to have been converted into a jewellery box later in its life. The internal lift-out tray and the paper lining are later additions rather than factory original to the 19th-century casing.Please review the condition and conversion details below and examine all photos closely, as this box is being sold as an antique restoration project or a unique historic piece.Condition Details:

• Exterior: The dark wood veneer has a rich, deep grain pattern. There are age-related surface scratches, light scuffs, and wear consistent with a 100+ year old item.
• Inlay: The mother-of-pearl central cartouche on the lid and the ornate escutcheon around the keyhole are structurally intact and display beautiful iridescence. There are some nibbles around the edges of the escutcheon.
• Interior & Tray: The box features a later-added removable lift-out tray. The interior walls and the tray are lined with a vintage cream and gold fleur-de-lis patterned paper. The paper is peeling and lifting away at the edges due to age.
• Woodwork: There are slivers of wood trim missing along the edges.
• Hardware: There is NO KEY is included.
