Border elements and curved framing devices characteristic of early Umayyad provincial copper issues.
Description:
This coin belongs to the post-reform copper coinage of the Umayyad Caliphate, struck after the great monetary reform initiated under Caliph ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Marwan in AH 77 (AD 697). These reform issues replaced earlier Byzantine-influenced designs with purely epigraphic Islamic types, reflecting the ideological consolidation of the early Islamic state. The circular border motif and compact Kufic inscriptions are typical of provincial fals coinage circulating widely in Syria and surrounding regions during the late 7th to mid-8th century.
Condition:
Very Fine. Strong central inscriptions with attractive earthen-green patina. Minor edge irregularities typical of early hammered copper coinage. Authentic early Islamic bronze coin, guaranteed genuine.
