The Naval Historical Center catalog identifies NH 52364 as a photograph of USS Juneau in the Far East circa 1950–51. Historical archival information further identifies the scene as Juneau at Kagoshima, Japan, in June 1950.
Historical Significance
USS Juneau was commissioned in 1946 and redesignated CLAA-119 in 1949.
When the Korean War began in June 1950, Juneau was already operating in the Far East. She became the first U.S. Navy cruiser to enter combat against North Korean forces and participated extensively in Korean War operations.
Juneau ultimately earned five battle stars for Korean War service.
