Vintage Trump Shuttle 727-200 Safety Card - Excellent condition. These are extremely rare.Trump Shuttle, which operated from June 1989 until April 1992. It was created when Trump purchased the highly regarded Eastern Air Lines Shuttle for about $365 million, acquiring the established hourly service linking New York–LaGuardia, Boston–Logan, and Washington–National. The shuttle had originally been created by Eastern in 1961 and was aimed primarily at business travelers. Trump tried to transform the traditionally no-frills operation into a more luxurious, highly branded airline. The aircraft were repainted in Trump’s distinctive white livery and their interiors were refurbished with maple-wood veneer, chrome fittings and gold-colored lavatory fixtures; passengers could receive complimentary meals and alcoholic beverages, and Trump Shuttle became an early airline user of self-service check-in kiosks and seat-back/in-flight telephone technology. The airline initially attracted considerable attention and recovered a substantial share of the shuttle market, but it never became profitable. The recession that began in 1990, declining business travel and the sharp rise in fuel prices following Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait severely damaged the operation. Trump eventually defaulted on the airline’s debt, and control passed to the lending banks. In April 1992, the Trump Shuttle name disappeared and the operation became USAir Shuttle, eventually becoming part of US Airways and, after the 2015 US Airways–American Airlines merger, the modern American Airlines Shuttle. The Boeing 727 was central to the Trump Shuttle story. The fleet was inherited largely from Eastern and consisted of both the 727-100 and larger 727-200, with published fleet histories identifying 8 727-100s and 17 727-200s over the course of the operation. The 727 was particularly well suited to the shuttle because its three rear-mounted engines and relatively short-field capability made it practical for the heavily congested Northeast airports, while its capacity was appropriate for frequent, high-frequency business flights. Trump spent approximately $1 million per aircraft refurbishing the inherited jets, making the 727s some of the most visually distinctive examples of the type in airline service.
