If model railroading wasn’t fun, it would have vanished years ago. Most modelers have a sense of humor and will often jazz up their operation with a funny scene or some eye-catching element that might not fit in with \"serious\" railroading.

The new clear-sided three-bay hoppers packs a secret - it has an onboard light system that sequences through an array of colored lights.

THE HOPPER:

The freight car is our rendition of the ACF two-bay cylindrical hopper. The body is molded in clear plastic. It has ladders on four sides and an add-on brake wheel. Up top are four hatches for loading cargo, while down below are two discharge hatches. An add-on metal catwalk is suspended above the car’s four sides.

The car rides smoothly on die-cast metal sprung trucks with die-cast metal couplers. Power pickup rollers are mounted on each truck to ensure a steady power flow to the car’s circuit board.

THE PIZZAZZ:

Place the car on a section of three-rail track, apply power, and the fun begins. The light sequences through a moving show of red, green, blue, and purple colors.

The lighting is gentle, not overpowering, and the colors have a flowing effect. The colors look fascinating in normal room light, but it is spectacular in a dim or dark room.
