The Crisis, founded by W.E.B. DuBois in 1910 and published monthly by the NAACP, was one of the first national periodicals by-and-for African Americans. In the pages of this invaluable Harem Renaissance resource are historically significant articles, essays, short stories, poems, plays and visual art.
The cover art in this April 1926 issue is by Laura Wheeler (Waring). It won honorable mention in The Crisis Literature and Art competition. She was a frequent contributor of cover art and interior illustrations for The Crisis. Her paintings are included in The Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery. The contents include W.E.B.
