THE dB'S Like This 1984 Bearsville 1st Press 1-25146 Peter Holsapple REM EX
Like This is the third studio album from the dB's, released in September 1984 on Bearsville Records. Recorded at Bearsville Studios in upstate New York, the album found the band operating as a trio following the departure of co-founder Chris Stamey. Peter Holsapple carries the songwriting throughout — eleven tracks of sharp, melodic power pop with clean guitar interplay and an economy of arrangement that suits the songs well. Standouts include "A Spy in the House of Love," "Love Is for Lovers," and "She Got Soul."
The album was distributed through Warner Bros. and released the same year Bearsville folded, making original US pressings genuinely scarce. Holsapple went on to serve as auxiliary guitarist and keyboardist for R.E.M. across the Green world tour and through the Out of Time album cycle — a connection that keeps the dB's on the radar for collectors who follow that lineage.
This is an original US First Pressing on Bearsville Records (1-25146), peach label with the Bearsville bear logo, blue and orange detail. Both sides carry the SH1 designation — first lacquer cut from Sheffield Lab Matrix.
Mastered at Sterling Sound by Greg Calbi — confirmed by the STERLING stamp and Calbi's GC signature etched in both runouts. Calbi is one of the most prolific and respected mastering engineers in the business, with credits spanning decades of American rock and pop.
Plated by Sheffield Lab Matrix (SLM), with delta plating numbers present on both sides. Pressed at Specialty Records (SP), the Warner Bros. affiliate plant.
Cut into the lacquer at mastering on both sides — a hand-etched message split across the two runouts: "She was like this..." on Side 1, "...and like this" on Side 2.
