The Teac A-4300SX is an vintage, 3-motor, 4-track high-end reel-to-reel deck known for its robust "tank-like" construction, auto-reverse playback, and 7-inch reel capacity. It operates at dual 3-3/4 and 7-1/2 IPS speeds, featuring a 4-head system (including reverse play) and feather-touch controls, often highly regarded for theAudiophile quality in both record and re-play for almost half century.
If we can find new reel tapes, we can archive frequency response of 30Hz to 28kHz (7-1/2 ips) from recorded music on Teac 4300SX - that rivals most of our modern day audio CDs (20Hz-20Khz). The SX model also has the highest specs among the Teac 4300 series.
This listing includes an actual video demonstration showcasing the superior recording quality of this machine. When switching between the source (digital music) and the tape (recorded in analog), pay attention to the music to appreciate the difference in quality. The re-record music's quality is noticeably enhancedwith greater bass depth, warmth, and "air" in the upper frequencies, alongside a more natural, holographic stereo image.
Service Notes
We acquitted this unit from original owner and bring to our shop for full service and re-calibration to factory specifications as recommended in service manual. Our technicians painstakingly check every capacitors for sign of leaking or degrading. We also usedspectrum analyzerto measure noise floor of the unit - to ensure no noisy and/or pin corrosion transistors on both pre-amplifier and recording board. All suspected faulty or degraded electronics components were searched and replaced as needed.
After playback calibration and bias setup, we apply signal generator to measure and calibrate the record level as factory specs. All tape play and record from line-in and microphone are also bench tested for sound and reproduction quality. All switches, pods, tires, tension wheels, belts, reel brakes and tape transport mechanism are thoroughly checked, serviced and replaced when necessary.
Play heads and metal parts on the tape track are demagnetized and cleaned. The deck also tested for tape tracking, speed (wow and flutter) record balance and reading from both microphone and line-in.
Finally, we produced a demo video to showcase the quality of this unit as it records and replays one minute of digital music directly from CD to reel tape. You can hear the demo for yourself—or, better yet, plug in a pair of headphones to experience the unit’s superior music reproduction quality.
Technical Notes
Despite the large size, the Teac A-4300SX Play/Record on 7 inch reel (or smaller) size only. No large reels of 10.5".Auto reverse play with aluminum sensing tape at the reel end. Record in forward direction only.
Due to the fact that most tape reels you have or available on themarket right now were more than 50 years old - we would recommend you record music (or tape remaster) and play back reel tape on the same machine. The use of degraded pre-recorded music reel tapes would be used with consideration. The frequently cleaning the play head each use would be needed to ensure the best sound quality also.The listing is for a tape deck unit, owner manuals and an attached power cord only. NO reel, No tape, No hub, No remote, No Box, No Cable, No Microphone, No other accessories included.If you happen to have sticky old reel tapes (especially two-tone tape), you would consider pre-bake the tape or recondition it before play on this machine. The reel motors on FF or RW mode will slow-down or even stop in operation withsticky / degraded reel tapes.
The unit is in very good cosmetic condition - No blemishes on the face plate but would need a good polishing/cleaning. The machine would show signs of previous usage such as hairline scratches, small dings, finger prints, worn-out corners and edges on the case, especially the wooden side boards and the bottom.
