The M577 is a variant of the M113 armored personnel carrier, developed for use as a mobile command post at the battalion level on the battlefield.
Although this vehicle is a mobile command vehicle, when used as a command post, it is parked and the field tent at the rear of the vehicle is deployed for operation.
The M577 was introduced to the U.S. Army in 1962 and saw combat use in the Vietnam War, and was also used in the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
This vehicle is used by many militaries around the world as an armored ambulance, emergency medical vehicle, and fire truck, and is also used by police and law enforcement agencies as a tactical response vehicle.
Its distinctive external features include a raised roof at the rear of the vehicle to allow the commander to stand up without obstruction, and the presence of an auxiliary power unit (APU) on the front of the vehicle\'s roof, making it easily distinguishable from the M113 on which it was based. • The main hatches and rear lights can be selected to be open or closed.
